Accelerated Reader/Library
Accelerated Reading is a program to encourage a love for reading and reading comprehension for the students. This committee will assist the AR faculty committee with recognition programs throughout the year for students and classes earning the most AR points in 2nd through 7th grades. Members will assist with coordinating and serving quarterly reward parties at lunchtime. Also, volunteers are needed weekly in the library to help shelve books, file, and process new books.
Birthday Brunch
Birthday brunch is a wonderful day for students and parents alike to celebrate their birthday at school and enjoy the fellowship of the Our Lady of the Lake community. This committee will assist with the set up and decorating of the cafeteria for our quarterly birthday brunch celebrations. Volunteers will also assist with serving brunch on that day.
Call Me If You Need Me
We often have an event that we need additional volunteers, and the “Call Me” committee is a list of volunteers who are available on an “on call” basis to fill in when needed. If you want to have the opportunity to be a small part of many things at school, this is a great committee to start with.
Colonial Day (5th Grade Parents)
This is a great opportunity for our 5th grade parents to coordinate and assist with activities that celebrate our heritage. Colonial Day is an entire day of fun and learning unique to fifth grade. The fifth grade students are immersed in the life of a child is the Colonial Times as they work through various station with activities pertaining to the times. The committee will volunteer planning time as well as time the day of the event to oversee the activities. This event is held in May.
Decorating/Hospitality
Share your Cardinal Spirit by providing and serving refreshments to our OLL families at various events. You would serve as the welcoming face of Our Lady of the Lake to current and new families throughout the year! Volunteer time differs for each event, and since this committee hosts events before and during the school day as well as in the evening, this committee is great for working parents.
Grandparents' Day
One of the most special days of the year is the day in which students get to parade their grandparents around their school, showing off what makes Our Lady of the Lake so special. Grandparents are treated to refreshments, a prayer service, and a tour of their grand children’s classrooms. This committee plans and coordinates a special day for grandparents and special guests. Volunteers are also needed to work the day of the event.
Honor Roll Prayer Service
Each quarter the school hosts a prayer service recognizing the academic achievements of our 4th-7th graders. Volunteers will set up and serve refreshments after quarterly honor roll prayer services.
Lost & Found
Assist with organizing and distribution of items in the lost and found bin. Volunteers will need to come to school for one hour shifts as needed.
Louisiana Day
This is a great opportunity for our 4th grade parents to coordinate and assist with activities that celebrate our Louisiana history. This event is the highlight of the school year for our fourth graders. Students spend the day learning about famous Louisianans, eating local food, and learning about plants and animals that are indigenous to the area. Volunteers will be needed in the planning stages as well as overseeing activities the day of the event.
School Supply Program
Volunteers help deliver the supply packs to the classrooms in July, prior to the opening of school in one to four hour shifts.
Teacher Appreciation
This committee coordinates activities to show our appreciation to the teachers and staff during Teacher Appreciation Week. Volunteers provide and/or serve food for events honoring our teachers. Volunteers will be needed during the week to assist with various special events for the teachers. Time will vary depending on the day and events planned.
Trunk or Treat Social
This night is a great opportunity for fellowship and to enjoy the spirit of Halloween in a safe environment. This committee plans and organizes the event, including recruiting people to host trunks. Volunteers will be needed to assist in planning the event as well as the night of the event for set up, overseeing event, judging of trunks and clean up! This is a great committee for everyone!
Uniform Swap
This committee organizes the collection and exchange of gently used uniforms at the end of the school year. Volunteers will meet to collect and sort uniforms prior to the swap, organize the swap, and work the night of the swap. You can volunteer a little or as much a you would like too! P.S.: Volunteers shop first!!
