Prayer is an essential part of each school day at Our Lady of the Lake. The school community prays together several times throughout the day. In addition, classroom prayers are said at the beginning of each class.
Each morning, K-7th grade students gather in the gym for assembly. The following prayers are said:
Lord, Jesus, increase the faith life of our school and parish, and strengthen our families. May the young men and women of our school hear your voice and listen to your call. Aspire them to great challenges and heroic deeds. Renew your call today. Bring forth a generation of priests and religious, fervent in prayer, joyful in their vocation, and courageous in professing the faith. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Come, Holy Spirit, into our school. Come even closer into our hearts. Fill us with love for one another. Fill us with love for you. Be our guide throughout the day, that we may please God in every way.
The following prayers are said before lunch and prior to dismissal, respectively:
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light. Where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive. It is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.
Oh, my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended thee, and I detest all my sins because of thy just punishment. But most of all for having offended thee, my God, who art all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of thy grace, to sin no more and to avoid the near occasion of sin. Amen.
All school prayers end with entreaties to St. John Bosco for intercession, as well as to Mary, Our Mother, under the titles of Our Lady of the Lake and Help of Christians.
