Admissions Guidelines

The schools of the Archdiocese of New Orleans, Louisiana, admit students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to the students at its school.  They do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of their educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs. 

Additionally, in compliance the Title IX of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, no person in the schools of the Archdiocese shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, or be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any educational program or activity except permitted under said Title IX.  This policy applies to all schools which are under Catholic Archdiocesan auspices.

ADMISSION POLICY:   

The state of Louisiana regulations require that a child entering first grade be six years of age on or before September 30th of that school year and that a child entering kindergarten be five years of age on or before September 30th of that school year.

 KINDERGARTEN AND FIRST GRADE ADMISSION POLICY:

 1.  All Kindergarten applicants will register in the spring at the same time as other students.

2.  Kindergarten parents will be notified, in a letter by the beginning of August, the date school will begin for their child.  Parents will bring their child to Our Lady of the Lake on a specified day to be screened using the Gesell Early Childhood Screening.  All students will be placed in a regular Kindergarten program or a pre-first program.  All Kindergarten students must be chronologically five years of age by  September 30th to be admitted to Kindergarten and must meet all other Archdiocesan and State regulations.  At the end of the school year, recommended placement in pre-first or first grade for the next year will be determined according to the progress made in Kindergarten.

3.  Children wishing to enter first grade must be chronologically six years of age  by September 30th.  All first grade students entering Our Lady of the Lake for the first time will be screened and tested to determine placement.  Children who screen/test developmentally/academically young may be placed in our pre-first grade program.  These students will progress to the regular first grade program the next year.  Pre-first grade will start at the same time as Kindergarten.   First grade will start at the same time as grades 2 - 7.

 

Order of Acceptance Policy:  ( Pre-School through 7th )

1. Children of OLL parishioners who live within the geographical boundaries of  the parish and have a sibling at OLL school.

2.  Children of other Catholic parents who have a sibling at OLL school.

3.  Children of non-Catholic parents who have a sibling at OLL school.

4.  Children of OLL parishioners who live within the geographical boundaries of the parish.

5.  Children of OLL parishioners who live outside of the geographical boundaries of the parish.

6.  Children of other Catholic parents.

7.  Children of non-Catholic parents.

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

      1.  Certified or Notarized Birth Certificate

 2.  Baptismal Certificate ( if Catholic)

 3.  LA Dept. of Health and Hospital Health Card  (IMM 1 3-92)

a.  To be completed by St. Tammany physician or LA Dept. of Health

b.  Completed by child’s physician and attach original immunization records

      4.  Current Report Card ( 1 - 7 )

      5.  Latest Standardized Achievement Test Scores ( 2 – 7)

 6.  Screening test administered by OLL for students entering K & 1 to  determine readiness and placement.  

 7.  Social Security Number

 8.  Registration Fee

 9.  Voucher (in triplicate) if applicable from home parish

 

WITHDRAWAL POLICY:           

1.       Notify the school office of withdrawal date.

2.       Complete a Drop Form or any other appropriate Withdrawal Form.

3.       Return all text and library books.

4.       Settle all debt (tuition, cafeteria, after care, books, library fees).

Parish Affiliation Categories and Definitions

At this time of year questions always arise regarding how Parish Affiliation Status is determined. Each individual Parish determines its guidelines for defining whether or not a family is considered Registered, Active, Supporting. Contact your Parish for the guidelines. The categories and their definitions are below. Accumulation of dollars is based on the calendar year January 1 through December 31, 2003.

RAS-OLL - Registered, Active, Supporting of Our Lady of the Lake Parish

The school is provided with a list from the OLL Parish Administration Office listing RAS families of OLL. These families meet the requirement set by OLL Parish of contributing $400 to Parish per calendar year.

Building Fee: Absorbed by OLL Parish - $100 per student

Support Fee: Absorbed by OLL Parish - $200 per student

RAS-OTHER-Registered, Active, Supporting of Parishes other than Our Lady of the Lake

For those worshipping and supporting parishes other than Our Lady of the Lake, Parish Affiliation Vouchers verifying that the Parent/Family is „Registered, Active, and Supporting‰ in their HOME PARISH are to be acquired from your Parish Office and turned in with the registration form. One voucher per child is required. If the voucher did not accompany the registration form, the form must be turned in immediately to the school office and we will attach them to the appropriate registration form. The deadline for accepting this form is March 1st. This voucher indicates the HOME PARISH agrees to provide financial support to the PARENT by paying the Parish Support Fee‰ to the ATTENDING SCHOOL.

Building Fee: Parent pays to the school the $100 per student building fee indicated on the school tuition financial form.

Support Fee: Family obtains from their Home Parish a voucher* for each student representing the Home Parish will be responsible to the Archdiocese for the $200 per student support fee.

Deadline for voucher to be received at OLL School - March 1st. OLL school receives the support fee directly from the Archdiocese.

NON-RAS - Not listed as Registered Active Supporting of any Archdiocese of N.O. Parish

Building Fee: Parent pays to the school the $100 per student building fee indicated on the school tuition financial form.

Support Fee: Parent pays to the school the $200 per student support fee

Indicated on the school tuition financial form.

NC - Not Catholic -Child is not baptized Catholic

Building Fee: Parent pays to the school the $100 per student building fee indicated on the school tuition financial form.

Support Fee: Parent pays to the school the $200 per student support fee

Indicated on the school tuition financial form.
