Our Mission
In a
nurturing Christ-centered environment, Our Lady of the Lake
Catholic School provides a strong moral and academic foundation
for all students to achieve excellence in their education,
confidence in their efforts, and responsibility for their
actions as they face the challenges of the ever-changing world.
School History
In September of 1890, under the
direction of a lay teacher, Father E. J. Lavaquery, opened a
school, which we now know as Our Lady of the Lake School.
Enrollment that year was ten boys and eight girls. The
Benedictine Fathers assumed care of the church in 1912, and in
1916 the Benedictine Sisters from St. Scholastica convent in
Covington came to Mandeville to help build the school into what
it is today. From a starting enrollment of eighteen
students, Our Lady of the Lake has grown to over 775
students.
Faculty
Our faculty is compromised of more
than fifty members at Our Lady of the Lake School. All
faculty members have a Bachelor of Arts Degree or a Bachelor of
Science Degree. One third of the faculty hold advanced
degrees.
Enrollment
Our Lady of the Lake School offers
a pre-kindergarten through seventh grade curriculum. The
student/teacher ratio is 16/1. The class size will not exceed 24
in kindergarten and first grade and 30 in all other grades.
Student Philosophy
We the students of Our Lady of the Lake School, are educated in a caring, Catholic environment. At our school we learn how to be good friends to everyone by showing respect towards them and by supporting and encouraging them. We have responsibilities to our families, our neighbors and our community. We are expected to do well in our studies and to achieve the goals that are set for us. We are learning to love God more and feel as though we're a part of His family.

Curriculum
Our Lady of the Lake Catholic School educates the whole person by promoting the spiritual, emotional, social and physical development of each student in a nurturing Catholic setting. The school challenges each student to attain their fullest academic potential and to develop a true sense of self-esteem founded in a solid Catholic curriculum.
The curriculum at Our Lady of the Lake School is designed to meet all requirements as outlined in the state of Louisiana's Bulletin 741. The school's curriculum is comprehensive and challenging. While the traditional method of teaching is the norm, teachers utilize a wide variety of methods and activities in teaching. In addition, accelerated Math and English classes are offered to middle school students who meet specific criteria set by administration. The core curriculum is enriched by the inclusion of music, art, computer, library, and physical education. The fifth through seventh grade students' curriculum includes Spanish. These enrichment classes provide other avenues for all students to achieve success.
Student learning is a chief priority of Our Lady of the Lake. We feel that every child can learn and reach their fullest potential.
